Water & Sewer Connection

The RM of Estevan No. 5 provides municipal water and sewer service to select areas. Properties outside these areas are responsible for their own water supply and wastewater system, which are regulated by the Province.

If your property is in a serviced area, contact the RM office before starting any work.

Properties Outside Serviced Areas

Acreages and commercial properties outside the areas above need to arrange their own water source and sewage system. In most cases, your contractor will apply for the required provincial permits on your behalf. However, as the property owner, you are responsible for making sure approvals are in place before work begins.

Water Supply

Common options include a private well or a cistern supplied by hauled water.

Household (domestic) wells
Landowners and occupants can use up to 5,000 cubic metres of groundwater per year for domestic purposes without a licence from the Water Security Agency (WSA). Domestic use includes household and sanitary use, watering livestock, spraying crops, and watering non-commercial lawns and gardens beside a home. It does not include selling water.

Commercial, industrial and other non-domestic wells
These require WSA approval. You must first get a Permit to Conduct Ground Water Investigation. After that, you need a Water Rights Licence and an Approval to Construct and Operate Works. Do not begin drilling until WSA has issued approval.

Hire a registered driller.
WSA keeps a list of registered water well drillers. Drillers must submit a report on every well to WSA.

Test your water.
Private well water is not regulated, and most private wells in Saskatchewan exceed at least one health guideline. Test your water regularly and treat it if needed.
